Today, I am leaving you with some real pictures of projected flooding that will occur along the Missouri River in the next 7 to 10 days with no relief in site.
The problem lies further upstream in Montana. Heavy snows and recent heavy rains have created snow/water levels over 200% above normal and up to 600% according to a USA Today Article.
Gavins Point Dam is releasing water at 90,000 cubic feet per second and this number could increase to 130 – 140,000 cubic feet per second by next week. Check out this video taken May 31, 2011. A lot of water is being released.
Communities around the Omaha/Council Bluffs area are bracing for the Missouri River to crest between June 9 – 11, 2011. Flood gates are being installed and levees shored up to prepare for the inevitable blast of water next week. Hopefully, people are making preparations to evacuate and secure their belongings along the adjacent properties by the Missouri River.
