This fall the soil sampling season has extended from the last part of September through November. I can remember when harvest activity was occuring through Thanksgiving. Now with the advances in technology, the growing season and time spent harvesting have been reduced considerably.
This leads me to soil sampling. Each year, many farmers are getting more sophisticated with their sampling by incorporating GPS points and by maintaining analysis histories of their fields.
I wanted to point out two resources that can help you with your soil sampling.
1) Soil Sampling – This document is available online and can be printed out. It takes you through some items to think about when sampling and the proper techniques.
2) Check out this soil sampling video from the Arkansas Extension that was posted last week. Check out the homemade soil probe with a welded washer. The welded washer keeps the probe from going too deep in the soil.
