The latest figures indicate that the Drought is coming back, especially in the highland states.

Check out the latest figures on the High Plains Drought Monitor Page.  The High Plains states are taking the brunt of the dry, drought conditions. The United States Drough Map also indicates this same picture.  I guess the main concern I have about this current picture is that I am starting to see this area expand particularly east. In Eastern Nebraska, we have seen isolated rains, but nothing of significance since mid-June.

This past week, a lot of crops were beginning to tassle. We are a bit behind this year and it will be interesting to see if the crops can hang on. The good news is that the drought is not as wide-spread as last year’s drought, but it does appear that some areas could really use some rain very soon to insure the crops can withstand the summer heat and wind.

Stay tuned for more updates.
